For Team SPCA, every pedal stroke across the 109 km route of this year’s recent Cape Town Cycle Tour was fuelled by love. Thanks to their dedication, 70 animals are now being prepared for adoption into loving homes.
Cape Town, South Africa (16 March 2026) – 102 dedicated riders hopped onto their bikes to pedal for a purpose far greater than a personal best or an adrenaline rush at this year’s Cape Town Cycle Tour.
They rode for the animals who deserve the fighting chance they’ve been so narrowly deprived of.
On the 8th of March, these incredible sportsmen and animal heroes of Team SPCA took on the iconic tour, pushing through the 109km route. They cycled with a single mission: to help prepare 70 animals for adoption, providing the care, comfort, and support they need to finally find their forever homes.
One of those animals was Ivy. A cat who arrived at the Cape of Good Hope SPCA after losing everything when her owner passed away.
“Despite the heartbreak, she remained gentle, loving and hopeful. After waiting patiently, Ivy finally found her forever home – the kind of happy ending every animal deserves,” Cape of Good Hope SPCA said.
Now with a spectacular R777,382 raised (an 11% increase from last year’s total) – made possible by the riders who rode with heart and the generous supporters who backed the cause – even more animals will receive the care and support they need to find their way into a loving home!
“And if you believe in lucky numbers… 777 is often associated with good fortune, which feels fitting for the lives this campaign will change. Because every kilometre cycled was for the animals in our care.”
The animal welfare organisation is immensely grateful to its supporters, prize sponsors and primary sponsor, Hill’s, whose support of the “Be The Change” campaign helped make this success possible.
“We also loved meeting supporters at the Cape Town Cycle Tour Expo, and hosting riders at our pre-race event, where they could see exactly who they were riding for – including Rufus, our campaign spokesdog, who has already found his forever home. Thank you for riding, supporting and being the change for animals,” the SPCA thanked.
