The top Matriculants of 2019 were invited to a breakfast with the Basic Education Minister Angie Motshekga, and one story inspired all attendants.
Johannesburg, South Africa – Tshilidza Manwadu inspired during the 2019 matric top-achievers’ breakfast this week. Tshilidza from Mbilwi Secondary School in Limpopo was invited to the breakfast as she was one of the top students in South Africa. She shared her success story, which has inspired the nation.
During 2017, Manwada lost her father. The loss pushed her to focus on her school work. She wants to become a medical professional one day so having the best school marks became her top priority. Growing up in Limpopo, her schooling opportunities were limited, but she didn’t let that hold her back.
Most children from overcrowded classes and poor schools take their educations into their own hands. They work harder than most and overcome incredible odds to earn their place at the top. Manwada credits her older sister for some of her success.
“She motivated me when I felt like giving up and she was always there to give me encouragement.”
Now that Manwada is done with matric, she hopes to get into the University of Cape Town (UCT) to study medicine. Her dream doesn’t stop there though, when she becomes a doctor, she wants to create an organisation that will empower women. Growing up watching her mother raise them alone, she knows the struggles women face and plans to change that.
“I want women to realise that their backgrounds don’t determine them. All they need to do is believe in themselves.
“If you believe in yourself and work hard, you can achieve anything,”
Manwada has proven that if you set your mind to something, you can make it happen. We are inspired to hear her story and hope to hear many more!
