September is your chance to touch grass and reconnect with SA’s wild spaces, for free!
South Africa (13 August 2025) – SANParks has announced that South African National Parks Week will return from 22–26 September 2025 (with some parks extending to 27–28 September), and that free access will be granted to most of SA’s 21 national parks.
During National Parks Week, SANParks opens the door to locals who would like to reconnect with our wild spaces, free of charge for day visits. It’s a chance to lace up the trail shoes with friends and family, and explore the natural beauty of SA’s protected natural, cultural and historical heritage in Heritage Month!
It’s also a good chance to learn more about conservation and how it works in the country’s most protected areas.
“Attention is also drawn to the sustainable development practices made possible through partnerships with key role players like communities living adjacent to national parks, business, scientists and tourists,” SANPARKS shared, in a statement.
“Please take special note of the fact that free access to national parks at this time does not include free access to accommodation facilities and other tourist activities,” it adds.
It all kicks off with a celebratory launch at Kruger National Park on Sunday, 21 September.

Cape Region
- Agulhas National Park: 22 – 28 September 2025
- Bontebok National Park: 22 – 28 September 2025
- Table Mountain National Park: 22 – 25 September 2025 [Extension TBC] (excluding Boulders Penguin Colony section of Table Mountain National Park and the Table Mountain Aerial Cableway)
- Tankwa Karoo National Park: 22 – 28 September 2025
- West Coast National Park: 22 – 26 September 2025 (not extending to the weekend, as it is active Flower Season)
Frontier Region
- Addo Elephant National Park: 22 – 27 September 2025
- Karoo National Park: 22 – 28 September 2025
- Camdeboo National Park: 22 – 28 September 2025
- Mountain Zebra National Park: 22 – 28 September 2025
