South Africa (18 September 2025) – Travel doesn’t always have to be about landmarks. Sometimes, the best adventures are found on a plate. Consider this as a guide book through South Africa.

Hunting the Best Biltong in Zastron

In the southeastern Free State, near the Lesotho border, lies the quiet town of Zastron. It’s not a place most people know, but its charm is worth the journey. Here, the search is for the best biltong, a true South African snack that is as much about tradition as it is about flavour.

Durban’s Iconic Roti

In Durban, the focus shifts to roti. A South African favourite that combines flatbread with hearty fillings. This local spot, Sunrise Chip n Ranch (aka Johnnie’s Roti) is known for making enormous, satisfying rotis and has earned legendary status among food lovers. The flavours are comforting and a perfect example of how everyday street food can become an iconic culinary experience.

A Tribute to the South African Mielie

Next, the journey takes us to a humble roadside stall in Johannesburg, where mielies (corn on a cob) are roasted over an open flame. Simple, smoky, and perfectly seasoned, this classic  South African snack. Watching the care and dedication of those who prepare it makes every bite feel like a true taste of South Africa.

Seafood at the V&A Waterfront

Cape Town offers a completely different experience, with fresh seafood served with the iconic V&A Waterfront in the background. From creamy mussels to crispy prawn bites and fresh sushi, the city’s seafood scene captures both local ingredients and international flair, proving that culinary adventures in South Africa can be as vibrant and diverse as the landscapes themselves.
