Vanessa Haywood was engulfed in sadness seeing a homeless man sitting defeated near the robot outside the cafe she was in so she did something good for him!
Cape Town, South Africa – Vanessa Haywood, a former Miss South Africa finalist, model and actress was enjoying her lunch when she saw a homeless man walking past the cafe she was sitting in. Her heart shattered as she watched him hobble past, thin and looking frail.
She was hit by a wave of sadness and anxiety, a feeling many South Africans feel when they see our most vulnerable members of society. Instead of pushing the feeling aside, as many do to get through the day, Vanessa acted on her heartache and did something to counteract it.
She shared the experience on her Facebook, not for applause but in the hopes that her actions would inspire more people to do one good thing.
“I am feeling a great sense of deep sadness and anxiety with the way this world is going. Stay positive, be optimistic right? I usually am but my Aquarian-side takes over more and more nowadays where I feel a great sense of urgency and need to make more of a difference.”
Vanessa needed to pull herself up out of the despair and sorrow, so this is what she did…
“As I ate my buckwheat, rocket & chicken salad at lunchtime today, sipping on my “green juice” overlooking a street in Cape Town, I watched a destitute homeless man sitting at the traffic light. His shoes were literally falling off his feet they were so old & mangled. He was thin, frail and missing most of his teeth.
So when I left, I went to the grocer and bought him a bag of necessities and groceries. He was so grateful and smiled up at me when I gave him the bag. I could barely hold back the tears.”
Vanessa did it to spread a little kindness and hopes that others will join her in her efforts.
“I do not want “well done’s” or “good for you’s”… I don’t do this nearly as often as I should. But I do want to spread good cheer and encourage others to do one “good deed” a week. Just one. This world is so full of need…”
