Through the “Clean & Green Sundowner” initiative, six students from Curro Aurora have combined community service, environmental awareness, and acts of kindness to improve their local area.

Randburg, South Africa (05 November 2025) –  Here’s how community service has become a movement. Six Curro Aurora students are rolling up their sleeves and making a difference. As part of their drive to earn school honours, AJ Peacock, Austin Schwann, Callum Labuschagne, Ethan Mason, Raedon Govender, and Thomas De Coenha are preparing to lead a major community initiative that goes far beyond school credit.

Their “Clean & Green Sundowner” project, set to launch in early February 2026, aims to transform the local Sundowner area into a cleaner and greener space. But this is not just another school clean-up; it is blueprint for sustainable community involvement.

The student-led campaign will see learners, teachers, and residents come together for a bi-annual clean-up drive that encourages environmental awareness and active citizenship. Instead of focusing on once-off donations, the initiative puts action at the centre. So, it’s gloves on, bin bags ready, and sense of purpose through a shared goal of giving back to the neighbourhood that surrounds their school.

Each of the six students has taken on a leadership role. From coordinating logistics and safety to liaising with the community and managing volunteers. They have thought through every detail, from ensuring proper waste collection and hydration points to securing permissions and setting up reflection journals for life orientation assessment.

Alongside cleaning efforts, the team will also runs acts of kindness. These include clothing donations for local workers and a refreshment table for community members who join in the day’s work. It’s a hands-on approach that merges environmental care with compassion.

The campaign is not a once-off event. It’s designed to live on, with this group mentoring younger students who will continue the initiative in future years. It’s sustainability in every sense, not just in keeping Sundowner clean, but in passing the baton of leadership and responsibility.

Their efforts have already earned them full colours for community service, but this final leg of the project marks the road to honours.

The “Clean & Green Sundowner” initiative is proof that when young people lead with heart, passion, and purpose, the impact can ripple far beyond their school gates.
