The White River community have knitted over 1583 beanies and scarves to help keep children warm this upcoming winter.

White River, South Africa (06 May 2021) – Winter is approaching faster each day and many children will be underdressed when the chill hits. A group from White River, Mpumalanga have come together to knit beanies and scraves to keep children warm this winter.

Penny Boden and Carol Stephen orchistrated a knitting frenzy in the town to make sure they touched as many lives as possible.

This project falls in line with the 67 Blankets organisation and when people are not knitting blankets for charitable world records, they are making scarves and beanies for children and the elderly.

The community was encouraged to make beanies and scarves using any pattern their hearts desired but that each scarf be a minimum of 130cm. The patterns and colours that have been sent in are enough to bring the warmth on the coldest day!

So far they have received a total of 1583 beanies and scraves, which means 1583 warm children this winter.

You can join the KnitWits, an affectionate name for all those who knit or crochet, and even run your own events to help children and the elderly, by joining the 67 Blankets group here.
