Promise

A recent promise was made to kids in need who had not had the joy of seeing many animals in real life. Over the weekend, that promise was made possible thanks to kindness and books for the price of a parking ticket.

Johannesburg, South Africa (24 April, 2023)—Great surprises come in all shapes and forms, taking different paths to make the ‘aha’ moment happen. Still, the best ones take notice of those small details that bring others joy and set out to fulfil a promise that doesn’t always seem possible at first.

Such a promise was made recently after Stephan Ferreria started thinking after colouring in with a few underprivileged children he and Charity Begins With Me help wherever they can.

Upon realising that many of the kids had never seen their favourite animals before, Stephan agreed to a mission on top of all the other projects CBWM oversee.

Stephan shared:

“It breaks my heart to even think how much they are missing out on and so I made a promise to them that I will take them to see the zebras. And lions. And elephants. And rhinos. I am also not a fan of zoos but that is a discussion for another day.”

For the price of a parking ticket, books would go on sale to raise funds for the promise. And, we’re delighted to report that it was a success.

The children sat drawing their favourite animals recently, none the wiser that soon they’d get to see them live. As Stephan shares (and as anyone whose ever been a child will understand) the excitement would simply be too much should the kids find out too soon.

Not to mention, trips to the barber were also underway as the kids got fresh cuts and fades in anticipation of their surprise waiting at the end of the week.

A Small Promise, a Big Difference

For children growing up in a world where survival is a priority way over and above trips to see animals, the moment is a heartwarming reality check.

Sometimes the smallest promises make the biggest differences, which is the essence of Charity Begins With Me.

And, if you want to be part of making sure any other future promises are kept, or simply help a tummy stay fed, you can keep up with Stephan and CBWM right here.
