Trainee Inspector Lindo Mbele fearlessly climbs a towering tree barefoot to rescue a distressed kitten, showcasing his heroic dedication to animal welfare.

Cape Town, South Africa (05 July 2023) – It was a sleepless night for a Belgravia family as their precious kitten found herself in a heart-stopping predicament atop a towering tree. Despite their best efforts, coaxing the feline down seemed impossible, leaving the distressed creature clinging to dear life.
In a shining display of unwavering dedication to animal welfare, Trainee Inspector Lindo Mbele of The Cape of Good Hope SPCA fearlessly stepped in to save the day… barefoot! Responding to the family’s desperate call for help in the early hours of Monday, 3rd July 2023, Lindo arrived on the scene, determined to rescue the kitten from her perilous perch.
Listening to the pitiful meows emanating from the tree, Lindo’s heart urged him into action. With a careful assessment of the tree and a keen eye for strategic branch placement, he gathered the confidence needed to embark on the daunting climb… barefoot!
“I surveyed the tree and concluded that I could climb it, given the numerous branches I could use as footholds. However, I knew I had to do it barefoot, as well as without a cat carrier since both of my hands needed to be free,” explained Trainee Inspector Mbele.
Thinking on his feet, Lindo emptied his backpack, ingeniously transforming it into a makeshift carrier. To ensure optimal grip on the branches, he removed his socks and shoes, embracing the challenge with bare feet. Our valiant hero fearlessly ascended the colossal tree, inching his way toward the stranded kitten.

After a nerve-wracking 25-minute climb, Lindo finally reached the frightened feline. However, coaxing her down and persuading her to enter the makeshift carrier proved to be another challenge altogether. With utmost patience and determination, our hero skillfully guided the hesitant kitten into the bag. Carefully descending the tree, he continuously checked on his precious cargo, ensuring her safety throughout the hour-long endeavour.
Both the trainee inspector and the courageous kitten were reunited with the relieved family on solid ground. Chief Inspector Jaco Pieterse commended Trainee Inspector Lindo Mbele, acknowledging his heroic actions and unwavering compassion during this daunting rescue operation.
Reflecting on the heartwarming outcome, Lindo stated, “It was worth every moment spent in the tree when I saw the joy on the family’s faces as I returned their beloved kitten to them.”
Thanks to Lindo’s love-fueled bravery, the adventure-seeking kitten emerged unscathed from her high-flying escapade. Though she was hungry, thirsty, and understandably chilled, the resilient little feline had thankfully come through the ordeal without any injuries.
Trainee Inspector Lindo Mbele’s selfless act and remarkable courage in the face of danger undeniably make him a true hero in the eyes of Chief Inspector Jaco Pieterse and all who witness his extraordinary commitment to saving lives.
