The Embassy of Ireland took a moment this week to celebrate the talents of the children from Elizabethfontein Primary, who performed at the Steilhoogte Dance Festival.
Pretoria, South Africa (12 September 2023) – A group of children from Elizabethfontein Primary in the Western Cape are being celebrated for their dancing by the Embassy of Ireland. A video has been shared on the Embassy’s Facebook page and thousands of comments have followed, offering support and kindness for this talented young group.
The dance style is a popular one within the Western and Northern Cape regions, known as Nama Riel, and always gets the crowd invigorated and as the Embassy so beautifully put it, is spellbinding!
The Embassy went so far as to comment on how the dance style could be embraced by traditional Irish dance, which could be a sight to behold!

The intricate footwork and precise movements, the deftness of their feet, the “jigs” and “reels,” the rhythmic patterns and quick movements… an absolute joy to behold that’ll bring a smile to your face. It is a performance that’s truly worthy of gracing any stage in the world.
Not to take anything away from this magical moment, imagine if the raw and spellbinding energy of this ‘golden buzzer-type’ act is infused with traditional Irish dancing?

Calls for the children to be the next “Britain’s Got Talent” submission are being shared throughout the comment section and many want to get involved in making that happen.
