A Joburg biker went off on a solo mission around South Africa, all to raise funds for HERD and their precious elephant family!

South Africa (05 April 2024) — A motorbike, a Joburger and a mission have made their way around South Africa, all to raise awareness and funds for the precious elephant family at HERD. Affectionately dubbed the ‘Mammoth Ride’, biker Kyle Malyon has dedicated 21 days of open road through all of South Africa’s provinces as his way of giving back to champions of elephant conservation.

For Kyle, the Mammoth Ride combined two of his loves. Riding, and the well-being of elephants. So, it only made sense to combine the two in an epic trip spanning thousands of kilometres.

As of today, Kyle shared that he had around 6,500kms under his belt, and that he had “completed the circle around South Africa”; having traversed all over the country from Joburg to Hoedspruit, East London to Hout Bay and homeward. With one more day to go, Kyle’s efforts have been nothing short of fantastic.

As many Good Things Guy readers know, the Hoedspruit Elephant Rehabilitation and Development team are very close to our hearts. Home to ‘celebrity’ orphaned ellies like Phabeni, Jabulani and Khanyisa, the heroes at HERD have given so many elephants a second chance at life against the odds, and in turn, they’ve given us so many reasons to smile (and tear up with joy) for these gentle giant success stories.

As HERD is reliant on its community of supporters to keep on making these success stories possible, we’re thrilled to learn about initiatives like the Mammoth Ride.

Support for the effort can be given here, and you can explore all the highlights of Kyle’s ride via the Mammoth Ride’s Instagram page.
