A number of beautiful private gardens in Noordhoek are opening their gates for the suburb’s annual Open Gardens. Money raised goes to a community project that keeps the suburb clean and green!

Noordhoek, South Africa (08 October 2026) – Garden lovers, grab your diaries! On 17 and 18 October 2026, 16 private residential gardens across Noordhoek will open their gates to the public for the 12th annual Noordhoek Open Gardens.

The gardens will be open from 10 am to 5 pm on both days, giving visitors the chance to explore beautiful, personal spaces while supporting a cause close to the Noordhoek community’s heart.

Every private garden is unique, with hidden corners and unexpected delights to discover along the way. A map and brochure will guide visitors from garden to garden, and since you can drive between them, you get to create your own garden-hopping adventure.

All proceeds from Noordhoek Open Gardens go to On the Verge, the community-led greening and gardening project that has been caring for Noordhoek for more than 15 years.

On the Verge creates and maintains roadside gardens, plants trees, clears invasive vegetation and looks after pathways and greenbelts for the community to enjoy. Its work also creates regular employment, training and skills-development opportunities for the green thumbs who work in its gardens.

“On the Verge is about so much more than keeping Noordhoek beautiful,” says Kathy Fish, spokesperson for On the Verge. “It is about caring for the spaces that belong to all of us, while creating meaningful employment and opportunities within our community.”

The cost of plants, equipment and maintenance continue to rise, and so fundraising has become increasingly important, and Open Gardens is one of On the Verge’s key annual fundraisers. The money helps the organisation keep its work going throughout the valley.

On the Verge also runs a volunteer group called the ‘Mad Hackers Society’, which meets monthly to tackle invasive alien vegetation in the surrounding mountains.

Tickets can be bought before the event, and will also be available at the gardens on the day. Local Scouts and Girl Guides will be helping with ticket sales over the weekend.

This is one fun outing where your ticket helps keep Noordhoek green, beautiful and welcoming! You can book your ticket here.
