Three teenagers in Hangberg exchanged boredom for a dose of community betterment by cleaning up litter along the road!

Hangberg, South Africa (12 January 2025) — Motorist Brendon was met with a pleasant surprise recently whilst driving up Karbonkelroad in Hangberg, where he spotted teens cleaning up the area of their own accord! While many teenagers quench boredom in other ways, the three who crossed paths with Brendon that day had decided to make the most of their free time by doing something awesome for their community.

As Suzette Bell-Roberts recounted to the group Hout Bay Organised; the three youngsters, Quaid, Luciano and Jordan shared with Brendon that they had been picking up litter along the road to use their time on their hands to the betterment of all.

“We’re bored, we can’t find work and so we decided to start collecting litter and cleaning up our neighbourhood starting with the road coming into Hangberg,” they explained. “We want to make a difference.”

Surrounded by green refuse bags, the teens stood out for their decisions to better their community, undoubtedly inspiring others who drove past.

Others have since applauded their efforts. As the youngsters are in need of clothing and other resources, Suzette indicates that anyone who can help them on their mission to beautify the area can get in touch with her which can be done via the group.
