Ruben Rudling’s ambition is as finely tuned as his rifle. Shooting has been the Port Shepstone teen’s passion since he first learned to aim, and he now has the opportunity to compete internationally – both a dream come true and an honour.

Port Shepstone, South Africa (12 June 2025) – Seventeen-year-old skilled sharpshooter Ruben Rudling is set to represent South Africa in the adrenaline-pumping sport he loves most.

The gifted teen is one of only two students selected from KwaZulu-Natal to represent South Africa on the SANSSU National Schools Shooting Tour to England, an incredible honour that reflects not only his skill but also his relentless dedication.

“We will be touring England from 28 July to 9 August 2025, and I will be competing in the prestigious British Junior Internationals (BJI) at Camp Bisley from 4 to 7 August 2025,” explains the Port Shepstone High School student.

“Shooting has been a passion of mine for many years, and to now have the opportunity to compete internationally is both a dream come true and an honour. I am committed to representing my country and SANSSU with pride, discipline and sportsmanship.”

The international tour, like most of this nature, comes with significant financial costs amounting to R69,000, with an additional R6,000 required for official team clothing.

The family has so far managed to raise around R35,000 thanks to community support. But they still have some way to go, especially with unforeseen costs such as visa applications, courier fees, and other travel-related expenses, which they have been able to cover as a family.

“I fully understand that these are challenging economic times, and I am reaching out to ask for any possible support to help me cover the costs of this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity,” Ruben appeals.

Ruben’s accomplishment is especially inspiring as he attained it while juggling the demands of his final matric year. It’s a massive achievement and a real testament to his character, work ethic, and resilience.
