A routine community outreach led to a very touching reunion. This is the story of how Woodrock Animal Rescue helped a Yorkie get back home after being missing for nearly two years.
Johannesburg, South Africa (30 June 2025) – Every now and then, you hear a story that grabs you by the heart and doesn’t let go. This is one of those.
It happened recently during one of Woodrock Animal Rescue’s regular outreach visits to a community in need. The team does remarkable work, bringing care, support, and sterilisation services to areas where animal welfare help is hard to come by. On this particular day, they picked up a small Yorkie. She was quiet and shy, but clearly cared for; there was something about her that didn’t quite say “stray.”
As always, the team scanned her for a microchip. And that’s where the magic began.
Beep.
She had one.
Within minutes, everything changed. That microchip led them straight to a family who had been looking for their dog since December 2023. She had vanished during their house move, and despite posters, social media, and endless searching, she was never found. They had waited nearly two years, never losing hope.
And then, out of nowhere, came the call:
“We found your dog.”
The reunion was pure emotion. She knew them instantly. Her tail wagged like mad, she leapt into their arms, and everyone, yes, everyone, was crying. It was as if no time had passed. Just love, waiting to be picked up where it left off.
All because of a microchip.
It’s such a tiny thing. It takes just seconds to do. But it carries with it the power to bring families back together. Queanne Southwood, who shared the story, was floored by how something so small could carry such enormous weight.
Did you know that 1 in 3 pets will go missing at some point in their lives? Collars can break. Tags get lost. But a microchip? That’s forever. That’s the little safety net that can change everything.
Woodrock Animal Rescue offers affordable microchipping at their clinic because they know what’s at stake. For them, this isn’t just a service, it’s part of their mission. They don’t just rescue animals. They give people hope. They create happy endings.
If your pet isn’t chipped yet, or if your details have changed, please don’t wait. It’s such a small thing that can make a world of difference. For that little Yorkie and her family, it meant everything.
And for everyone watching that moment unfold? It was a beautiful reminder that hope, like love, is never truly lost. Sometimes, it just takes a little time, and a beep, to find its way home.
