They sang. The world listened… and they became triple gold winners! As the sole representatives from South Africa and the African continent, the Stellenbosch University Choir stood tall against 132 choirs and captivated audiences with the magic of Mzansi talent.
Aarhus, Denmark (07 July 2025) – The award-winning Stellenbosch University (SU) Choir has once again done what they do best: send chills, stir emotions and inspire music lovers from all walks of life with their powerful voices and exceptional talent.
The choir won not one or two, but three gold medals at the INTERKULTUR European Choir Games and Grand Prix of Nations 2025 in Aarhus, Denmark!
This phenomenal achievement once again reaffirms their global force and place among the top choirs in the world.
Competing against 132 choirs from 33 countries, the SU Choir stood tall as the only choir representing South Africa and the African continent.
Their impressive scores: 96.56% – GOLD in Adult Choirs (2nd place overall), 95.69% – GOLD in Jazz, Pop, Show (2nd place overall) and 95.31% – GOLD in Musica Sacra a Cappella (3rd place overall) are a testament to the choir’s musical excellence and their extensive international appeal.
“What an emotional experience. It’s been a huge privilege to watch our amazing choir perform at Aarhus here in Denmark,” expressed Prof Richard Stevens, SU’s Acting DVC: Learning and Teaching, following one of the final performances.
He further commended the student’s sense of unity and talent.
“You saw student success here. People from all over Europe coming to watch our choir was truly an honour, and we can be proud of our SU choir,” added Prof Stevens.
The countless hours of dedication, practice and vocal refining to deliver beautiful performances and some of the most sacred musical pieces have, by no doubt, paid off.
We’re so proud of what they have achieved. The SU Choir returns home not just as musical champions, but a true inspiration to us all and are shining example of what is possible when timeless talent stands confident in changing times to create something truly magical.
