No one was ready for the delightful chaos a surprise four-legged participant would bring to the recent Knysna Forest Marathon. She ran the marathon and stole hearts, leading to an overwhelming number of requests for her adoption!

Knysna, South Africa (15 July 2025) – The Knysna Forest Marathon had the pleasure of hosting a surprise visitor recently, and she was on four legs!

A brave and joyful rescue pup from the Knysna Animal Welfare Society (KAWS) joined the runners and completed the half marathon alongside them!

The organisers were so smitten with their furry friend that they did the sweetest thing: they presented her with her very own finisher’s medal at KAWS, because every finisher, no matter how many legs they have, deserves recognition!

KAWS was, of course, thrilled, saying:

“Thank you, Knysna Forest Marathon, for giving our girl her well-deserved medal,” KAWS said.

But the cuteness didn’t stop there! This marathon-running marvel easily won over countless hearts, leading to KAWS being absolutely inundated with adoption requests!

“She needs to be sterilised and will go up for adoption next week. Sweetest girl who is very timid but had the waggiest tail,” KAWS said.

Don’t you just love it when a sweet moment unfolds into something truly special! It won’t be much longer before this amazing pup will be snuggled up in a warm home where she will finally be showered with all the love she deserves.

The Knysna Forest Marathon further extended a big shout-out to the team at KAWS for the tireless work they do in caring for those who can’t speak for themselves. The animal welfare charity is dedicated to rescuing, rehabilitating, and rehoming animals in need across the Greater Knysna area.

“Your dedication to our four-legged friends is nothing short of incredible.”
