From Witbank to Alexandra, Potchefstroom to Roodepoort, and Parktown, our men and women in blue embarked on heartwarming campaigns that touched countless lives this Mandela Day.
South Africa (20 July 2025) – Our women and men in blue were on the ground spreading goodness and sharing the spirit of Ubuntu throughout the nation this Mandela Day.
Friday, teams under Operation Vala Umgodi in Mpumalanga embarked on an awareness campaign in honour of Mandela Day by preparing food for people with disabilities at Mystical Mansion Guest House in Witbank. Children living with disabilities engaged in various activities, including painting, drawing, and playing soccer.
The District Commissioner of Ekangala, Major General Selepe, also made a presentation and sensitised the audience and caregivers about prioritising the well-being and safety of the children.

At the Alexandra Stadium in Gauteng, SAPS members focused on community education, with a central theme centred on the preservation of wildlife. The event served as a platform to raise awareness of the vital role communities play in protecting South Africa’s natural heritage and combating illegal wildlife trafficking.
The district office of Potchefstroom, under the leadership of Maj Gen Mmolawa, spent their 67 minutes for Madiba planting trees and cleaning their offices.

Still in North West, Ikageng SAPS spent their day supporting a single mother of eight children by giving her blankets, groceries, and toiletries, among other essential items.
SAPS Rhoodeport provided soup to 50 children at Doras Ark, and the Social Crime Prevention members cared for 60 elderly people at the Mhlangeni Skill Centre, who received pizza, blankets, and food parcels.
Members of SAPS Gauteng Provincial Head Office, led by the Provincial Head for Inspectorate, Brigadier Nikiwe Sefatsa, spread the spirit of giving, donating clothing, non-perishables and toiletries to the Teddy Bear Foundation, Sunlight Safehouse ChildLine and Philile Early Childhood Development in Parktown.
Beyond these events, collective acts of kindness shone brightly. These are just some of the incredible initiatives our crime fighters and part-time do-gooders have undertook as part of honouring and keeping the spirit of Ubuntu alive!
