Save a Fishie has welcomed its birthday month with an exciting new book, 822kg of collected litter, and a new eco-friendly store!

Cape Town, South Africa (04 August 2025) – August is proving to be an exciting month of major milestones and new beginnings for Save a Fishie!

“The Fishie That Got Saved”

The environmental movement is celebrating its birthday month with the launch of its first storybook! The Fishie That Got Saved is an inspirational true story about the little fish that started it all for charity founder and 23-year-old environmental activist Zoë Prinsloo.

The story takes readers on the journey of how Save a Fishie came to life from one small act of kindness to a full-blown movement.

“This heartwarming tale captures the origins of our mission and the story behind our beloved mascot, Safi,” shares Zoë, the heart and brains behind Save a Fishie.

The book is perfect for all ages, whether you’re a long-time supporter or new to the Fishie Family.

Milnerton Lagoon Cleanup

The Save a Fishie team, joined by volunteers and members of the Rotary Club of Blouberg, also kicked off the new month armed with rakes, spades and gloves on Saturday as they tackled the Milnerton Lagoon, a huge area that has been littered and steadily increasing for years.

Zoë shared that despite challenging conditions with a high-tide line that was filled with microplastics, making it impossible to pick them out, teams tackled and scooped up as much as they could.

“Everything had microplastics stuck to it! Every piece of reed, every piece of seaweed. Honestly, a nightmare cleanup job! But we had an INCREDIBLE team to make a huge impact,” Zoe shared.

The impact in numbers? The dedicated team managed to remove an impressive 822 kilograms of litter! This massive effort has pushed their total collected waste to an incredible 47,808 kg, bringing them ever closer to their 50-ton goal!

Eco-Friendly Store Now Open

In more exciting news, Save a Fishie has officially opened its first physical store! Located at The Shred Skatepark on 68 Auckland Street, Paarden Eiland, the store is open every Tuesday from 10am to 3pm to purchase your favourite Save a Fishie merch and eco-friendly products!
