A bicycle, a wounded dog and a devoted pet owner. Pushing one pedal after the other, Mr Ndlovu stopped at nothing to get his injured Bobby the help and care he needed, easily capturing hearts and inspiring people around SA.

Johannesburg, South Africa (11 August 2025) – Every now and then we come across and share moving community stories of those pet owners who, although don’t have much for themselves, will go the distance, quite literally, to make sure that their furry companions’ needs are met and receive the best care in times of trouble or injury.

This heartwarming care and responsibility were recently beautifully demonstrated by Mr Ndlovu, who placed injured Bobby on a crate on the back of his bicycle before cycling several kilometres to get him help at the Community Led Animal Welfare (CLAW) in Johannesburg.

Bobby had sadly been attacked by other dogs in the neighbourhood, leaving him with nasty injuries, when Mr Ndlovu dropped everything to get him assistance.

They soon arrived at CLAW, where Bobby will remain until he has made a recovery, all thanks to his responsible and loving pet owner.

“Bobby will stay at CLAW for daily wound treatment, and once sterilised, he will return home,” CLAW said.

When their image and story were shared online, South Africans were moved by the care Mr Ndlovu demonstrated towards his Bobby. Others even offered to donate to help Bobby’s recovery, with one user saying:

“Wishing loyal Bobby a speedy recovery. Those wounds look very painful. Poor boy – I am so very sorry Bobby was viciously attacked. Thank you to his wonderful daddy for all the love, care and creating this handy crate.”

Another person praised Mr Ndlovu for his actions and suggested more education was needed to help other animals.

“There should be a little ambulance for our voiceless. Educate people to love and care like this man who cycled for help to save his dog. You are a gem, thank you for loving your baby.”

CLAW is a welfare organisation, renowned for its community-based primary animal healthcare in South Africa. It brings new hope to pet owners like Mr Ndlovu, who find themselves in impoverished communities where traditional veterinary services for dogs and cats are often unavailable.

They also work closely with community-based organisations and schools and offer vital animal care education to pet owners in Johannesburg’s poorest township areas.
