Young learners at St John’s certainly helped heal the world and make it a better place with their adorable Michael Jackson choir performance!

Johannesburg, South Africa (16 October 2026) – Early this month, the Sound of Children Choir Festival took place at the Linder Auditorium at Wits.

Hosted by The Ridge School, junior choirs including St Peter’s Girls Prep, St Andrew’s School for Girls Preparatory, Pridwin Preparatory School, and St John’s stood side by side and sang together.

One charming performance that found its way out of the auditorium and onto social media was by the St John’s Upper One boys.

The little ones in Grade 3 put on a show-stopping performance of Michael Jackson’s greatest hits, including ‘Billie Jean’ and ‘Heal the World,’ which warmed everyone’s hearts!

The young choir also performed a fantastic rendition of the Spirit of South Africa’s ‘Meadowlands’.

“Music brought the schools together, the boys learnt so much, and they enjoyed every moment,” said Miss Shanon Frigyik, Head of Department in Music in the preparatory.

The choir festival was conducted by Maestro Richard Cock, accompanied by the Phoenix Orchestra.

“The boys loved watching the other schools perform, and they learnt a great deal about stage etiquette, performing, and following a conductor.” shares the school.
