Noordhoek’s gorgeous gardens are opening their gates for a truly spectacular floral weekend! Happening this October, Open Gardens promises to be more than just a stroll through paradise as every ticket helps a phenomenal local organisation keep the community beautiful and support those who tend to it.
Noordhoek, South Africa (30 September 2025) – Nature lovers, garden enthusiasts, and families, it is that time of the year again when creativity and the beauty of the Cape floral kingdom take centre stage as Noordhoek’s much-loved Open Gardens returns for its 11th year!
Taking place on the weekend of 18 and 19 October 2025, this year’s showcase will feature 11 unique and inspiring gardens from across the Noordhoek valley.
But beyond the colourful blooms and landscaped spaces lies a deeper purpose: the event raises vital funds for On the Verge, a community-led initiative founded by Open Gardens organiser Kathy Fish. For the past 16 years, On the Verge has transformed Noordhoek’s roadside verges into thriving, colourful spaces that reflect the valley’s natural beauty.
“We live in paradise, and years ago our verges were such an eyesore,” says Fish, recalling how the project began.
“I remember driving between Robertson and Ashton and noticing their beautiful verges. I mentioned it to a friend, and she said, ‘Stop talking about it and do something.’ That was the spark for On the Verge.”
Since then, the non-profit has created 34 gardens, planted hundreds of trees, and cleared invasive alien vegetation, all with the help of a small but dedicated team. Residents often spot their bright “We are on the verge today” sign on Wednesdays, when the group is out planting, pruning, or weeding along the roadsides.
Noordhoek Open Gardens weekend not only showcases Noordhoek’s private green gems but also ensures that On the Verge can continue its mission of beautifying the public spaces that everyone enjoys.
Adding to the sense of community, local Scouts and Girl Guides will be manning the entrances and ticket sales at each of the 11 gardens, helping to welcome visitors and contributing to the smooth running of the event.
“It’s heartwarming to see the younger generation play such an active role,” Fish notes.
“Their enthusiasm and community spirit remind us why this event matters—it’s about coming together to create something bigger than ourselves.”
Over the past decade, Noordhoek Open Gardens has become a beloved tradition for locals and visitors alike, offering the rare chance to step into private gardens while contributing to a cause that benefits the whole valley.
Proceeds from ticket sales go directly to supporting On the Verge, making every visit part of Noordhoek’s ongoing story of growth, greening, and community pride.
