South Africa’s men’s and women’s hockey teams delivered a golden performance at the Africa Cup of Nations, sealing continental dominance and punching tickets to the 2026 FIH Hockey World Cup in Belgium and the Netherlands.

Ismailia, Egypt (20 October 2025) – South Africa stamped its authority on the continent as both the men’s and women’s national hockey teams struck gold at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations. A double triumph that booked their tickets to the 2026 FIH Hockey World Cup in Belgium and the Netherlands.

The women’s side was in unstoppable form from start to finish, topping the round-robin stage with three wins and a draw against Kenya to claim ten points. Ghana followed closely in second place with three victories and a single defeat.  That loss came at the hands of the South Africans, who showed their class and composure throughout the tournament. When the two teams met again in the final, South Africa sealed the deal once more, securing the gold medal and their World Cup spot in emphatic fashion. Kenya went on to defeat Nigeria for bronze, while Egypt finished without a point.

South Africa’s superior goal difference gave them the upper hand heading into the gold medal match. And when it mattered most, they delivered again, edging Egypt to claim the title and complete a stunning clean sweep for the nation.

From tactical brilliance to teamwork and consistency, South Africa’s performances in both divisions showcased the nation’s growing hockey excellence and continental dominance. With two gold medals in hand and a place on the world stage secured, South Africa’s hockey stars have made the country proud and set the tone for even greater things to come.
