For many of Cape Town’s most vulnerable four-legged residents, this year’s Guy Fawkes night was calmer than most, thanks to the dedicated partnership between law enforcement and SPCA heroes.
Cape Town, South Africa (07 November 2025) – The firecracker of a night so many of our poor furry friends dread, Guy Fawkes, was thankfully a calmer one for animals across the Cape Metropole.
The welcomed relief was all made possible through the dedicated teamwork of City Law Enforcement officials and the Cape of Good Hope SPCA, who ensured that no call for help went unanswered or suspicious activity was overlooked.
“Between Wednesday, 5 November and Thursday, 6 November, our Inspectorate received 51 calls, with only seven related to fireworks – a marked improvement compared to previous years,” the SPCA said.
A heartrending video shared online showed one poor doggo that had been trapped between a wall and a Wendy house in Delft, which Inspectors swiftly responded to.

Other reports involved children throwing fireworks at a dog in Claremont and dogs reacting fearfully to fireworks in Seawinds and Mitchells Plain.

While fireworks-related incidents were fewer this year, Cape of Good Hope SPCA confirmed that some animals remain missing or frightened after being startled by loud noises.
“Terrified pets can travel great distances in search of safety – so please keep an eye out for lost or distressed animals and displaced wildlife,” the SPCA team urged.
