It took a village to mend her broken leg and spirit, and a little extra time to find the right door, but Angel has finally traded her kennel for the home she was always meant for!

Johannesburg, South Africa (03 February 2026) – Some time ago, the Benoni SPCA team received a call about a heartbreaking case involving a six-week-old pup with a broken leg. More devastating, her owner had not given her any medical attention – even after being asked to.

“Our amazing inspectors went to investigate and educated the owner and gave them 24 hours to rectify the situation,” the SPCA shared in a post.

Inspectors returned the following day only to find the owner had done absolutely nothing. Another failed education attempt.

“Our inspectors jumped right into action, got a warrant of arrest and confiscated Angel from her owner.”

In that crucial moment, the Benoni SPCA became her lifeline. The pup, affectionately named Angel, was taken to the vet – a visit that came with the hefty quote of R6,000 to treat her leg to avoid amputation.

The team and the greater community rallied to raise the funds needed to get this poor girl back on her feet. In a beautiful outpouring of love, donations flooded in for her surgery, and the dedicated veterinary team at Benoni SPCA worked tirelessly to repair her leg.

“Angel made an amazing recovery. Her tail never stopped wagging, even through the tough days – a true reflection of her gentle and loving spirit never wavered.”

Though she was ready for adoption, the days and months passed as poor Angel was overlooked.

“Our hearts sank, because we knew how special and amazing Angel is. But we persevered and hoped and prayed the right family would come and see Angel for who she is now and not the damaged pup she was.”

And it was just a matter of time before their hopes came true! The stars aligned as Elisie Nagy and her family showed interest in taking Angel in.

The necessary checks were done and passed with flying colours.

“We couldn’t contain our happiness and excitement. We cannot thank you enough for adopting Angel and giving her a second chance to be loved, and we know she will be,” the overjoyed team said, thanking the Nagy family.

Angel held a very special place in the hearts of her rescuers and carers. There wasn’t a dry eye in the office as the precious girl left the building last week.

You didn’t need to know her personally to be touched by her story. We’re so chuffed she finally got her happy ending with a family who saw her for the angel she truly is!
