Blitzboks dominate Argentina in the final to secure a long-awaited Hong Kong Sevens title and kick off the World Championship series in style.
Hong Kong (20 April 2026) – The Blitzboks have added another major title to their growing legacy, delivering a statement performance to win the Hong Kong Sevens and finally put their name on one of rugby sevens’ most iconic trophies.
South Africa’s men were in control for much of the tournament, but it was in the final where they truly raised the intensity and delivered their most complete performance of the weekend. Up against the Argentina national rugby sevens team, the Blitzboks produced a composed, clinical and physically dominant display to seal a convincing 35-7 victory and close out the competition in style.
From the opening minutes, South Africa set the tone with their pace, structure and physical edge, keeping Argentina pinned back and struggling to build any real momentum. Their execution was sharp across the board, with the team showing real balance between aggressive defence and controlled attacking play.
It was a performance that reflected a squad growing in confidence and maturity with every outing, and one that will boost their standing as the season continues.
Leading from the front was Captain Impi Visser, who admitted the moment carried both pride and relief after finally breaking new ground in Hong Kong.
“I’m just so proud of the boys because we achieved something special today. I think we broke the hoodoo at Hong Kong Sevens and can finally call ourselves champions here.”
The victory not only delivers silverware but also underlines the continued evolution of the Blitzboks as they build towards the next stages of the HSBC SVNS season.
With the next tournaments on the horizon, South Africa will be looking to carry this momentum forward. But for now, Hong Kong belongs to the Blitzboks!
