Wellington just needed a way to get to his driver’s licence test… what he got instead was a community that refused to let him “drive” that road alone.
South Africa (26 April 2026) – Two days. That’s all it took for a story to turn into something far bigger than anyone expected… and for one man’s simple ask to be met with an outpouring of support that has completely changed the road ahead for him and his family.
When we first shared the story of Masixole Wellington Ngqungu, a Stellenbosch University security guard who has built a following through his warm humour and relatable videos, he was asking for help to cover a trip to the Eastern Cape. Just R5,000. Enough to get him to Mthatha to write his driver’s licence test on the 12th of May, a step that could unlock new income opportunities and help him provide more for his family.
Wellington’s story took off on Instagram… and his community showed up in a way that no one could have predicted. In just two days, donations climbed to nearly R40,000. Not just meeting the goal but multiplying it almost five times over.

Wellington shared a message that says more than any headline ever could:
“Hi everyone,
I honestly don’t even know what to say, we have raised almost five times the original goal. I truly can’t believe it.
From my heart, thank you to every single person who contributed, shared, or reached out. Your kindness and support mean more to me than I can put into words.
When I told my family about your support and how our future is now brighter than ever, we all couldn’t stop crying. My sons, my wife, my mother, my sisters and me, all so incredibly thankful.
It’s not just the money, it’s the feeling of being seen, supported, and cared for by this community.
I am so grateful to each and every one of you. This will make a real difference for me and my family, and I will never forget it.
Thank you so much.
And also thank you so much forall your messages, good wishes and encouragement.
Means so much to me and my family.”
Social media has exloded with love for Wellington.
“You deserve all of this and so much more and you have an amazing community rooting for you 🙌🔥👏❤️”
“I think you should update the message and target and see if you can get a car!”
“You’re so welcome Wellington we love you ❤️”
It started with a trip. A single step towards a licence. A chance to open another door. Now it feels like something bigger has been unlocked… not just for Wellington, but for everyone who shared, donated and reminded him that he’s not doing this alone.
Somewhere between Stellenbosch and Mthatha, between a goal of R5,000 and nearly R40,000 raised, a family is looking ahead with a little more certainty… and a whole lot more hope.
