The 2026 South African National Figure Skating Championships will bring together the country’s top athletes while highlighting the sport’s growing momentum locally.
Cape Town, South Africa (07 May 2026) – South Africa’s top figure skaters are set to take to the ice in Cape Town this month as the 2026 South African National Figure Skating Championships return to GrandWest Casino’s Ice Station from 10 to 12 May.
Hosted by the Western Province Figure Skating Association together with the South African Figure Skating Association (SAFSA), the championships will bring together skaters from across the country for three days of national competition and performances.
For many athletes, the event represents the highest level of domestic competition and an important opportunity to test themselves against the country’s best.

SAFSA president Christo Viljoen said the championships are about far more than competition alone.
“As we approach our upcoming National Championships, I would like to take a moment to reflect on what this event truly represents, not only as a competition, but as a statement of who we are and where South African figure skating is heading.”
Viljoen praised the volunteers and organisers who helped bring the event together, saying the championships were built through collaboration and a shared commitment to growing the sport locally.
“What makes this achievement even more meaningful is that it has been accomplished entirely by volunteers.”
The federation looks to continue creating more opportunities for athletes to compete and develop within the sport.
“Expanding competitive opportunities is essential if we are to inspire improvement and long-term commitment from our athletes.”
The championship offers a rare chance to watch many of South Africa’s leading figure skaters competing together in one venue.
