From overcoming difficult odds to leading as Head Boy, Blessing Manguno inspires everyone around him. And now, his village wants to celebrate his incredible journey by sending him to his Matric Dance in a custom suit that reflects the bright future ahead of him!

Cape Town, South Africa (01 June 2026) – There is so much to admire and appreciate about a person who hasn’t just overcome the underserved odds in their path, but has excelled in everything they put their mind and heart to – all while inspiring countless others along the way.

This sentiment perfectly captures Blessing Manguno, a matriculant at Camps Bay High School. Born into difficult circumstances, Blessing’s life was transformed with the help of real-life guardian angels, turning his path into a truly inspiring journey of a young person destined for great heights.

Blessing is one of the children at the SA Children’s Home (SA Kinderhuis), one of the oldest welfare institutions in South Africa, which provides stability, love and care for vulnerable children from very difficult early-life circumstances.

“He is an exceptional young man who currently ranks in the top 20 academically and also serves as Head Boy. He carries himself with quiet strength and dignity and is deeply committed to changing the course of his life through education,” shares SA Children’s Home Fundraiser, Nina Crawford.

Blessing’s early childhood was extremely difficult before he was placed at the Home through the Children’s Court. Despite this, he made a powerful decision from a young age to focus on his education above all else.

“There were times when he studied by candlelight, yet he remained determined, knowing that learning was his pathway to breaking the cycle and building a different future. He has never allowed his circumstances to define him and continues to write a new story for himself through discipline, perseverance and hope,” Nina tells us.

Blessing, who is also a respected and adored head boy at his school, is a beautiful role model to the younger children in SA Children’s Home’s care, always leading with kindness, responsibility and quiet encouragement.

As his Matric Dance approaches, the Home would love to give Blessing a moment that reflects the incredible journey he has walked.

“We are trying to raise funds for a custom-made suit for him so that he can experience his Matric Dance feeling confident, celebrated and truly valued. The total cost is R5,000.”

Fulfilling this dream would be about so much more than just a suit. It is a chance to honour a young man who has worked so hard to rise above his circumstances and who continues to inspire everyone around him.

“Together we can give Blessing his dream Matric Dance and create a memory that will stay with him for a lifetime. It would mean so much to us if his story could be shared and if people could help us bless him in this way.”
