The final World Championship event of the season presents South Africa with the chance to cement its status as the standout team on the global sevens circuit.
Bordeaux, France (05 June 2026) – With history on the line in Bordeaux, the Blitzboks are keeping their focus firmly on the present.
South Africa head into the final HSBC SVNS World Championship event of the season with a chance to complete a remarkable double after already securing the World SVNS Series title earlier this year. Another strong showing in France could see them crowned World Champions as well, but captain Impi Visser says the squad is not getting distracted by what is at stake.
Instead, the focus is on rediscovering the team-first mentality that has carried them to one of their most successful seasons in recent memory.
The Blitzboks arrive in Bordeaux after finishing runners-up in Valladolid last weekend, bringing an end to their run of five consecutive tournament victories. Visser admitted there were valuable lessons to take from the campaign in Spain.
“It was not the greatest team effort last weekend… Those lessons were accepted and for this weekend, we want to go out and play without any fear, and stick to the things that make us tick as a team.”
The Blitzboks will begin their Bordeaux challenge against familiar opposition. Great Britain and Kenya, who both pushed South Africa hard in Valladolid, await on the opening day, ensuring there will be no easing into the tournament.

“We are only going to focus on Friday. It will be about having the right frame of mind. We know what we can do, not to look for the results but to follow the process.”
A potential historic double within touching distance, the Blitzboks know exactly what is at stake.
