Armed with nothing but determination and a desire to feed his family, a father set up a small table selling sweets outside a school gate. But when his stock started running low, the community noticed his hustle and came through for him in a big way!
Durban, South Africa (08 June 2026) – The struggle of unemployment is real, and it is relentless. But the hustling spirit of our people is just as resilient. Just like one Durban father who refused to let hardship break him. Instead of waiting for handouts, he stood up, took action, and started selling sweets outside school gates to feed his family.
Every morning, he woke up early, packed his table and stock, and headed out. By the time the morning rush started, his shop was set up and ready for the learners and passersby.
Soon enough, his table of treats became about more than just candy; it represented courage, dignity, and a father’s determination to provide for his children.
He chose hustle over hopelessness. And when his stock finally started to run low with no inventory left to replace it, it was that very determination that resonated with hearts all over.
His story was shared publicly by the Mission Thando Khabazela Soup Kitchen, issuing a call to help a hardworking father who refused to let hardship have the last word.
In a recent happy, heartwarming update, Mission Thando shared images of the father surrounded by bags full of treats and possibilities! His much-needed stock had been ordered and replenished thanks to the incredible generosity of the Angel Network Durban.
“Every packet of chips, every sweet, every box is not not just stock. It’s school fees paid. It’s dinner on the table. It’s proof that hard work + community support = real change,” Mission Thando shared.
“The Angel Network Durban, you didn’t just donate products. You invested in dignity. You backed a man’s determination and told him ‘We see you. Keep going. That kind of belief changes lives.”

Mission Thando extended its heartfelt gratitude to the Angel Network for blessing this family and to everyone who shared the post, prayed, and sent messages of encouragement.
“You proved that when we show up for each other, no one has to hustle alone.”
