The Red Cross War Memorial Children’s Hospital celebrated 70 years of hope, healing, miracles and brave warriors in a most special day of pure joy, treats, and even a surprise helicopter landing!

Cape Town, South Africa (22 June 2026) – Last week, the Red Cross War Memorial Children’s Hospital celebrated 70 years of saving young lives with a vibrant anniversary celebration filled with love, laughter, and unforgettable memories.

Donors, sponsors, supporters, media, and staff gathered alongside young patients for the momentous occasion. Adding to the excitement, Heart FM’s Suga Rush team broadcast live from the hospital, bringing music, high energy, and plenty of birthday love directly into the wards.

The colourful event was mainly for the children. The young patients were treated to a day of pure joy, packed with delicious treats, fun activities, entertainment and even a surprise helicopter landing that brought extra “gees” to the party. It was exactly the kind of spoiling these brave kids deserve.

The incredible hospital staff weren’t forgotten either; nurses’ and doctors’ lounges were gifted brand-new coffee machines, microwaves, and toasters to fuel them through their vital work.

For over 70 years, the Red Cross War Memorial Children’s Hospital has stood as a medical refuge for countless babies, children, and teenagers facing some of the most painful and complex medical conditions.

If the walls of this hospital could talk, they would speak of seven decades of profound healing. They would tell stories of burn victims finding comfort, young warriors refusing to let childhood cancer have the final say, infants overcoming complications in their first moments of life, children receiving life-altering surgeries and of a compassionate staff who go above and beyond for the little lives depending on them.

Every smile shared during the fun-filled anniversary was a testament to a legacy built on beating the odds. Here’s to many more years of hope, healing, and miracles!
