HiPace Cycle Challenge set out to shine a light on lifestyle-related illnesses with a 600km journey from Johannesburg to Durban.
South Africa (24 June 2026) – What started as a personal fitness challenge has turned into something far more emotional and purpose-driven for DJ and entrepreneur Prince Kaybee. Behind the HiPace Cycle Challenge, a demanding ride of over 600 kilometres from Johannesburg to Durban was a personal story rooted in loss, reflection, and a desire to make a difference.
For Prince Kaybee, the idea wasn’t about endurance on the bike, but about raising awareness around lifestyle-related illnesses such as obesity, diabetes, and high cholesterol. These are conditions, he says are often underestimated in society.
The initiative was inspired by the passing of his mother, saying her death shifted his perspective completely and made him more aware of the importance of health and prevention. It’s a loss he still carries with him, and one that now fuels his commitment to the challenge.
At its core, the project has encouraged people to take better care of their health, while also creating a space for those who are willing to push themselves physically to join in the journey.
The most physically demanding task of my life.
I just wanna share the stats quickly:•We climbed for 5882m.
•Each day had 10hours of riding.
•I had 2 shows to do in the 3days.
•Woke up at 3AM every morning.
•It was windy, cold and misty.
•I had two blown tubes on my rear.… pic.twitter.com/uOvI6k7yuE— PRINCE KAYBEE (@KabeloMusic) June 22, 2026
The ride itself was no small feat. Covering more than 600 kilometres over three days, participants travelled from Johannesburg through the Free State and into KwaZulu-Natal, before finishing at Durban’s South Beach. It’s a route that demands serious preparation, with the riders spending hours in the saddle each day just to keep pace.
This journey also comes after a difficult period in his life, following a motorcycle accident two years ago that forced him to rethink his relationship with fitness and recovery. What once was a setback has now become a catalyst for a new direction.
Now, as the first HiPace Cycle Challenge has come to an end, Prince Kaybee encourages the public to start preparing and potentially join him and his team next year.
