Home of Hope recently cut the ribbon to officially open its new workshop! A space which will see its young adults learn new skills, gain confidence and discover their potential.

Cape Town, South Africa (26 June 2026) – True to its name, Home of Hope is just that for vulnerable children and youth, several of whom live with Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorders (FASD).

Knowing well the challenges in caring for children affected by FASD, Home of Hope has evolved from a ‘place of safety’ to provide a multi-faceted, unique long-term solution for the protection of children and young adults, and so respond to a big need we have in our country.

Recently, the Home celebrated a milestone its founders and members have dreamed of for a long time: to officially open a workshop at its Anselm Farm!

For many of the young adults at Home of Hope, the journey into adulthood comes with unique challenges.

At Anselm Farm, young adults already engage in skills development and income-generating activities, such as producing organic fruits and vegetables, raising free-range chickens for eggs, and composting. These activities foster social and emotional growth as they interact with peers and mentors.

The addition of this new workshop will support the higher-functioning young adults to learn more valuable practical skills, gain confidence, and discover their abilities. Lower-functioning young adults will also have a programme designed especially for their needs.

“Seeing it [the workshop] become a reality fills our hearts with pride and joy,” Home of Hope shared online.

“We are incredibly grateful to the Christie Foundation for making this possible. As our skills development initiatives grow, we hope to develop products that can be sold to the public, helping to create a more sustainable future for Home of Hope and the children and young adults we serve.”

The team also extended its gratitude to Vrienden van Home of Hope Kaapstad for generously sponsoring the benches in the workshop, which have created a practical and comfortable space for the young adults.

Soon, these young people will gain new skills that will not only allow them to craft and create but also help them discover a remarkable layer of potential they may not yet realise they have.

“To everyone who has supported this journey, thank you for believing in our young adults and investing in their future,” Home of Hope said.
