Gavin Skevington is well within his incredible Run the Coast challenge, running the entire KZN coastline to raise hope, awareness and vital support for five charities making a real difference for animals, children and communities.

Richards Bay, South Africa (06 July 2026) – In the last week of June, Gavin Skevington embarked on an extraordinary challenge that would test not only his physical endurance but also showcase just how deeply he cares about championing causes that serve others.

Now halfway through his Run The Coast Challenge, Gavin took it upon himself to run the entire KwaZulu-Natal coastline in just 15 consecutive days.

Gavin’s challenge spans from Port Edward to the Ponto border post, with no rest days or shortcuts allowed. Today marks Day 9, finding him pushing through Richards Bay along the John Ross Highway – a stretch he openly described online as the most harrowing part of the run so far.

More than a physical feat, the challenge is built on creating real impact. Gavin is tackling every gruelling kilometre to raise awareness and funds for five life-changing charities.

These include:

Project Rhino, a collaborative network of over 65 conservation organisations working to stop rhino poaching in KwaZulu-Natal.

Paw Prints Rescue and Rehoming, a pro-life safe haven in Botha’s Hill for dogs and puppies who have been abused, abandoned or neglected.

CHOC Childhood Cancer Foundation SA, made up of caring, committed and passionate people who stand up for and support the well-being of children and teenagers diagnosed with cancer or life-threatening blood disorders, as well as their families.

Sithanda Upliftment Projects, which is committed to unlocking childhood discovery and uplifting individuals through Early Childhood Development (ECD) centres in underprivileged communities.

Jes Foord Foundation, which coordinates various projects to educate, create awareness and change attitudes through advocacy and other initiatives.

As Gavin steadily paces himself through the 600 km route, facing heavy traffic, winter chill, the piercing sun and fatigue, he carries with him the hope of raising funds and awareness for these incredible causes that directly support animals, children and communities.

For him, the run isn’t just about distance; it’s about purpose. Every kilometre brings hope and resources to the communities who need them most.

His goal is to raise R50,000 for each charity, and Gavin is calling on South Africans to do what they do best: show their support for a really good cause.
