The South African distance-running star continues to raise the bar, earning World Athletics Gold Status ahead of the Super Run Durban.

Durban, South Africa (16 October 2026) – Glenrose Xaba has another reason to celebrate, with the South African distance runner listed among the athletes holding Gold Status on World Athletics’ 2026 road-racing list.

The recognition comes during a remarkable period for the Boxer Athletics Club star, who has continued to make her mark on the local and international running scene through a string of impressive performances.

Earlier this month, Xaba made history at the Jozi SPAR Women’s 10km Challenge in Johannesburg, winning the race in 32 minutes and 26 seconds to secure her fourth SPAR Grand Prix title. She became the first athlete to win the series four times, adding another milestone to an already impressive career.

Her success follows another landmark achievement in 2025, when she became the first South African athlete to win all five races in a single SPAR Grand Prix season.

Xaba’s consistency has helped establish her as one of the country’s leading female distance runners. She holds the South African 10km road record of 31:12, set in Durban in July 2024, and the national marathon.

But she is not slowing down just yet.

Xaba is expected to line up at the Boxer Super Run Durban on Sunday, 18 October, taking on the fast-paced 5km course along Snell Parade.

The shorter distance offers an opportunity to test her speed following a demanding season of 10km racing, while also helping her prepare for the half-marathon events ahead. Her upcoming plans include the Hong Kong Half Marathon later this year, as she continues to build towards her longer-distance goals.

From rewriting the SPAR Grand Prix record books to earning recognition on the World Athletics Gold Status list, Xaba’s journey reflects the consistency and determination required to compete at the highest level.
