Thanks to the quick thinking and knowledge of CPR of a neighbour, a family’s terrifying pool accident ended in a life-saving miracle for their three-year-old boy.
Salt Rock, South Africa (07 July 2026) – When a three-year-old boy’s outdoor playtime turned into a terrifying accident after he fell into the pool at his family’s Salt Rock home, it was his neighbour who rushed to his rescue.
According to IPSS Medical Rescue, the child had been submerged in the water for approximately ten minutes. When neighbour Jacques Joubert realised something was wrong, he dropped everything, rushed over and immediately began performing CPR on the unconscious boy.
Local news reports detailed that Jacques had been alerted by shouting next door, which quickly turned to screaming.
“The mother was hysterical. I saw the child’s sister carrying his limp body up the driveway and ran to assist. Thankfully, I know how to do CPR. It took quite a while, but he started breathing. It was a miracle,” he said.
The boy was stabilised on scene by Advanced Life Support paramedics before being transported to a nearby facility for the further care he required.
In these kinds of heart-stopping home accidents that happen far more often than we want to believe, Jacques helped bring a little boy back from the edge of tragedy, giving his family a miraculous gasp of hope in a very scary moment.
IPSS Medical Rescue extended its heartfelt gratitude to heroic neighbour Jacques, whose quick action and early CPR undoubtedly helped prevent further tragedy and gave this vibrant little life the chance to keep moving forward.
Social media users have also applauded the hero next door as well as the IPSS team for acting with bravery and preventing a family’s worst nightmare.
“We have many heroes in our community! Hoping the little boy recovers fully from this ordeal! How frightening for all! Prayers and good wishes only,” one of the many comments read.
A huge well done to all involved. Our hearts are with the child’s family, and we hope he recovers well.
