The rich musical heritage of our nation is shining bright across Europe! The St Mary’s DSG all-girl choir left South Africa this week to take over various public spaces, airports, train stations and streets with graceful performances that are sure to leave crowds spellbound.
Barcelona, Spain (13 July 2026) – After months of rehearsals and perfecting their pieces, the talented learners of St Mary’s DSG Kloof packed their suitcases, grabbed their passports, and headed for the international boarding gates to kick off their European adventure!
This week, the choir jetted off to share their vocal talent, musical artistry, and vibrant South African culture on the global stage.
One of the biggest highlights of the tour is that the girls perform everywhere! From airports and train stations to restaurants and streets, they will be proudly sharing our South African vibes wherever they go!
On Monday, 6 July, the first day in Nice, France, the group commanded the attention of visitors and passersby with a beautiful impromptu performance of Zulu songs near the historic Statue of Apollo – a stunning treat for any ear that paused to listen!
Wednesday night saw the all-girl choir perform at the beautiful Parish Church of Santa Maria and Sant Nicolau in Barcelona.
“The breathtaking acoustics of this historic church made the experience even more special, and our girls sang beautifully. We couldn’t be prouder,” St Mary’s shared online.
“It was a true privilege to perform in a church with such a remarkable history. Originally built in 1564, the church’s tower collapsed in 1747, destroying much of the building. It was rebuilt in 1755 and later expanded in 1785.”
It was an unforgettable evening of music, history, and shared memories. In videos posted to social media, the choir looked stunning in royal blue dresses and traditional African beads. Their vocals were exceptionally controlled, soaring gracefully, blending seamlessly, and capturing the audience with every song.
More is in store as the tour will also be visiting the FC Barcelona stadium and spending a fun-filled day at Port Aventura Theme Park.
With each fun and magical show, the choir carries with it the pride, warmth, and rich musical heritage of South Africa. We wish the girls of St Mary’s an unforgettable journey filled with standing ovations, shared memories, and the joy of connection!
