Diagnosed with cancer as a baby, Donelle Johnson has spent much of her life overcoming unimaginable challenges. Now, as she awaits her latest scan results, she’s choosing hope over fear.

Johannesburg, South Africa (22 July 2026) – She has spent most of her life fighting cancer, but she’s never stopped choosing hope.

For as long as she can remember, Donelle Johnson’s life has been defined by courage.

Diagnosed with cancer when she was just three months old, Donelle has faced more than most people will in a lifetime. Multiple diagnoses, surgery, chemotherapy, radiation treatment and countless hospital visits have all become part of her journey.

Yet, through every setback, one thing has remained constant: her determination to keep moving forward.

Rather than allowing her story to be defined by illness, Donelle says it has taught her the importance of finding hope, even in life’s most difficult moments.

She credits much of that strength to her faith and to her mother, whose unwavering smile has inspired her to keep believing that brighter days are still ahead.

“That shows me to always keep, have a smile on your face, even though you’re sad or whatever, but to keep on going and to know that God is always there.”

While the road has never been easy, Donelle’s outlook remains remarkably positive. Her story is less about the battles she has faced and more about the resilience she has found through them.

As she waits for the next chapter in her journey, she hopes her experience reminds others that hope doesn’t only arrive when life gets easier. Sometimes, it’s the decision to keep believing, one day at a time.

As Donelle puts it: “Hope is choosing to believe that this is not the end of your story.”
