When a University of the Western Cape student asked for just R30 to buy bread, the four generous funders turned his humble plea into a heartwarming reminder that kindness can arrive in abundance when it is needed most.
Western Cape, South Africa (04 August 2026) – When humble prayer is met with an answer of overflowing generosity and kindness, lives can change in the most unexpected ways. This best captures what recently happened for a University of the Western Cape student whose cupboards had run empty and who had asked for just enough money to buy a loaf of bread.
Just R30. That was all the student asked for when he reached out to the UWC Fairy Godmother with nowhere else to turn.
To his surprise, he did not receive only R30. Instead, four funders opened their hearts and wallets to his plight. The result? Bags and bags of groceries to fill his once-empty cupboards and fridge.
After sending the UWC Fairy Godmother an update and a photo of all the food he had been able to purchase, the student shared his heartfelt gratitude for the organisation that helped bridge the gap in his desperate situation with generosity that miraculously changed her circumstances.
“I’m genuinely grateful and appreciate all the effort. I was even able to get myself some essential toiletries and took myself to the barber for a haircut. This was more than what I expected, and to each and every person who donated, my gratitude extends to them. May God bless them and may their cups never run dry. They not only contributed, but they saved a soul. Thank you so much for everything,” he thanked.

If you have found your faith in humanity waning lately, let this be one of those genuine reminders that restores it. That people still care, and they are still willing to help another person who finds themselves in need and unsure of where to turn.
