Do you have a young artist at home? Their creative take on peace could win them first prize in this local art competition.
South Africa (01 September 2026) – An art competition with a purpose, and that purpose is peace!
Save a Fishie has teamed up with the International Peace Youth Group for its Pieces for Peace Art Competition.
The competition challenges entrants from ages 10-18 to think about what peace means to them. Young artists are asked to answer that through either a poster or a sculpture. The challenge that each artwork must be made entirely from recycled materials!
Recycling is a part of Save a Fishie’s wheelhouse. The local environmental non-profit was founded by conservationist Zoë Prinsloo, who started cleaning beaches when she was just 10 years old.
The organisation works to stop plastic pollution and litter before it reaches the ocean and harms marine life. It hosts regular beach clean-ups, environmental education and awareness campaigns, and has brought thousands of volunteers together around the country to remove tonnes of waste from South Africa’s coastline.
Its competition partner, the International Peace Youth Group, focuses on getting young people involved in efforts towards peace. The group believes young people have an important role to play in building a more peaceful future and encourages youth around the world to take an active part in that work.
Through the competition, these organisations join forces to ask young people to think about both the world around them and the kind of world they would like to live in!
Entries into the competition are open to two age groups. Juniors aged 10 to 14, and seniors aged 15 to 18. Entrants can take part on their own or rope in a few friends and enter as a team of up to five, as long as everyone is in the same age category.
Entries can be registered by emailing [email protected], and finished artworks can either be sent through by email or dropped off in Milnerton.
The deadline has been extended to 11 September. Once entries close, the top three artworks in each age group will be chosen and shared online. From there, the public gets a say, with voting deciding the favourites.
The winners will be announced on 2 October, and prizes will be given!
