With big hearts and a splash of pink, the Bloemhof community came together to raise an incredible R50,000 for the work Project Flamingo does to support breast cancer patients in the public healthcare system!
Stellenbosch, South Africa (03 September 2026) – Thousands of women across the country navigate their lives with courage, quietly facing the reality and challenges of a breast cancer diagnosis. At whatever stage they are in, it is a fight that demands immense resilience while juggling already busy lives and responsibilities. Adding to this, many of these women endure unbearable delays, often waiting months for treatment in a strained public healthcare system.
Upon learning about these challenges and the invaluable work Project Flamingo does to meet these women where they are with swift, life-saving medical interventions, the staff and learners of Hoër Meisieskool Bloemhof stepped up to support their mission.
The school ran a fundraising campaign, inviting families and members of their community to dig deep and give back to a cause that actively removes patients from long waiting lists for treatment, helps women beat cancer and reclaim their power.
The Project Flamingo was not just a competition among the learners; Bloemhof educators also jumped in with great enthusiasm.

As part of the festivities, learners took part in classroom challenges and sent a wave of pink through the school by donning pink outfits for a fun civvies day. Educators also proudly wore their Flamingo headbands for a whole week, creating an uplifting display of support for the cause and the women it assists.
Together, they raised R50,000 for the project!
“An exceptional achievement made possible by the involvement and support of our entire Bloemhof community,” the school said in what has turned out to be one of its biggest successes this year.
“A big thank you to every learner who participated with so much enthusiasm and helped collect this incredible amount. You showed what is possible when we stand together for a good cause.”
Overflowing with gratitude, Project Flamingo sent a massive and heartfelt thank you to the entire school community:
“Thanks to your creativity, your energy, and your gees, more women will be given the care they deserve. Together with Phoenix Bestuur 2026 and Flam, you have brought hope to those around you. Thank you for showing up and making room for her. We are so grateful to each and every learner, teacher, caregiver and everyone else involved.”
