South Africa will host Australia across three venues from 24 to 30 September, with a number of familiar faces returning to the squad.
South Africa (08 September 2026) – The Proteas are gearing up for a big start to the home summer, with Australia coming to town and Gerald Coetzee back in the ODI picture.
South Africa has named a 16-player squad for the three-match Dafabet ODI series against Australia, with Temba Bavuma returning as captain and a number of familiar faces coming back into the side. The DP World Lions fast bowler is set to return to South Africa’s 50-over setup for the first time since the 2023 ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup in India.
That gives the 25-year-old another opportunity to make his mark in an ODI side that will be looking for plenty of firepower against the Australians. Coetzee has already shown what he can do with the ball in international cricket, and his return adds another pace option to a squad packed with experience.
Bavuma, meanwhile, is back at the helm after last featuring for the Proteas in the ODI series against India in December 2025.

He will lead a side featuring Aiden Markram, Marco Jansen, Lungi Ngidi, David Miller, Corbin Bosch and Quinton de Kock, all of whom return after being rested for the recent ODI series against Namibia.
And with that experience back in the mix, South Africa will be hoping to hit the ground running when the home summer officially gets underway.
The first ODI will be played at Hollywoodbets Kingsmead Stadium in Durban on 24 September, before the action moves to Johannesburg for the annual Dafabet Pink Day at DP World Wanderers Stadium on 27 September.
The series will then wrap up at the NWC Oval in Potchefstroom on 30 September. There is also a little unfinished business between these two sides on South African soil.
When Australia last toured for an ODI series in 2023, the visitors raced into a 2-0 lead before the Proteas fought their way back to win the five-match series 3-2.
This time, South Africa will be looking to start on the front foot.
