Raven-Symoné’s visit to South Africa has become more than just a filming location for the next Cheetah Girls film. For the American actress and producer, it has sparked a powerful, home-like connection to the country’s rich culture, vibrant fashion, and welcoming spirit – she’s not sure she wants to leave!

Cape Town, South Africa (10 September 2026) – Many young millennials will immediately know who comes to mind at the mention of the catchy sitcom phrase “That’s So Raven” – why Raven-Symoné, of course!

An American actress, singer, and television personality, Raven first came to fame as a child star playing Olivia Kendall on The Cosby Show and later became a household name starring as Raven Baxter on the Disney Channel’s hit series That’s So Raven. She also starred in The Cheetah Girls franchise, hosted The View, and directed and produced several TV projects.

Recently, she has been making waves in South Africa while filming a new Disney film instalment, The Cheetah Girls: Next Gen. Good Hope FM’s Irma G caught up with the star for an exclusive conversation about her journey, music, life, and so much more.

During their chat, Raven touched on the iconic fashion trends that have defined The Cheetah Girls franchise from the very first film, expressing her hope that these styles continue to evolve alongside the growth of the characters.

Having been in the entertainment industry since she was just 16 months old, the 40-year-old star now largely works behind the screen in the producer’s seat. She reflected on how producing and directing allow her to guide stories, challenge stereotypes, and help actors shape their characters – something she first became aware of at age 18 when she realised she didn’t want to be boxed in or let the world dictate how she responded to things.

In addition to her film work, she revealed that she is currently writing a memoir where she opens up about aspects of her life she has previously kept private.

Dressed in all South African threads, paired with Hi-Tec sneakers she was geeked to find in a local store, Raven shared her admiration for the country’s local fashion, style and, of course, the people.

“I came here, and I forgot I was from America,” Raven laughed.

“I’m an American, but the community and the people have embraced me like my ancestors never left, which is absolutely beautiful. It makes me want to live here; it makes me want to move here. The food, the people, the community – there is beauty in this country, and all over, as I’ve been to Durban, too. I feel more beautiful here. There is something different here that feels warm and inviting. Everyone on the set of Cheetah Girls has been saying the same thing. You have a wonderful thing going here. It feels great.”

Her heartfelt appreciation for South Africa highlights the deep, meaningful connection she has formed with its people and culture during her stay – and we’re so chuffed to be her hosts!
