Could an apology be the greatest Christmas gift of all? Tesco’s new festive advert certainly has us thinking about it.
Global (02 November 2026) – Christmas Adverts are here! And if you’ve been following Good Things Guy for a while, you’ll know just how much we love this time of year. Every November, the big brands start releasing their festive campaigns, and every year, we find ourselves sharing the ones that give us all the feels.
We know our readers love them too, so we’re going to try to share just one Christmas advert a day. TRY being the important word here. There are always so many incredible ones!
And Tesco has just given us a beautiful one to start with.
The British supermarket giant has released its 2026 Christmas advert, titled The Wrong Address. It’s about friendship and finding the courage to say you’re sorry.
The three-minute film stars British actresses Roisin Conaty and Anna Maxwell Martin as Polly and Lizzie, two former friends whose lives unexpectedly collide just before Christmas. Lizzie has accidentally ordered her entire Christmas grocery shop to an old address, hundreds of kilometres away. But when Tesco delivery driver Polly recognises her name, she offers to meet her halfway. What follows is a journey that sees the two women confront their past and rediscover a friendship they thought they’d lost.
“I love that this story centres on female friendship. It starts in a way many people can relate to, all stress and mayhem, but shows how one small act of kindness can bring people back together after years apart,” Roisin Conaty explains.
It’s beautiful. But of course, because this is the internet, not everyone agrees.
The advert has sparked a rather entertaining debate among British viewers, with people in the comments pointing out that the delivery driver would be making everyone else’s groceries late and that allowing a customer to travel in the delivery vehicle would be against the rules. And yes, they’re right about the practicalities. But we don’t believe that’s the point. It’s a Christmas advert. It’s storytelling. It’s a little festive magic wrapped around a message I think we could all use.
We all have someone like that in our lives. A friend we haven’t spoken to in years or a friendship that might have faded because neither person wanted to be the first to reach out.
An apology.
And another reason to join our 1 Million Good Things Before Christmas campaign. We’re encouraging South Africans to do one million acts of kindness before Christmas Day and we think an apology might be a really important one (good thing) to do this festive season.
Picking up the phone and telling someone you’re sorry. Sending that message you’ve been putting off. Admitting you were wrong. Or acknowledging that the friendship you shared was worth more than the disagreement that ended it. Of course, not every friendship needs to be repaired and forgiveness doesn’t mean we have to welcome everyone back into our lives. But some friendships can be saved if one person is brave enough to make the first move.
So, while the internet debates Tesco’s delivery routes, we’re choosing to celebrate the reminder that it’s never too late to reach out to someone who mattered to us.
Yes, an apology could be the greatest Christmas gift someone receives this year. And part of 1 million good things!
