After hours of searching and checking for dangerous snares, the missing dog was eventually located with help from people searching neighbouring farms.

Mpumalanga, South Africa (10 September 2026) – A missing Weimaraner has been found safe after a community-wide search ended in a successful rescue.

The dog had disappeared after a walk on a farm, prompting an urgent search on a wet and bitterly cold Sunday morning. The rescue team immediately began working through the area, looking for any signs that could lead them to the missing animal.

The search also meant checking for potential dangers, including snares. During the sweep, the team found five areas where animals had previously been caught, with evidence involving two porcupines, a duiker and what appeared to be a wild cat species.

The immediate area was carefully checked first to make sure the Weimaraner had not been caught in any of the snares before the search was expanded towards neighbouring farms.

After hours of searching, however, there was still no sign of the dog.

The team eventually returned to their office after completing another rescue operation involving a Boerboel. But they had barely arrived when another call came through.

A dog had been heard in distress, and there was a possibility it could be the missing Weimaraner.

They met with the owners, went through what had happened and worked out the best way to continue the search. A group was already searching the farm across the road, so the teams continued looking together. About an hour later, they got the news they had been waiting for.

One of the search team members had located the dog and called for assistance with retrieving it safely. The groups then worked together to get the animal out and into the care it needed.

The Weimaraner was taken straight to a veterinarian for assessment and treatment.

The successful rescue meant two dogs had been brought to safety through two separate operations. It was the Boerboel earlier in the day and now the missing Weimaraner. So after hours of searching, the uncertainty finally came to an end with the outcome everyone had been hoping for.
