Northriding, South Africa (22 September 2026) – The Sweethearts Foundation’s sorting days bring people together to prepare collected materials for recycling. It’s a practical way to lend a hand, meet the Sweethearts community and support its mobility work. This Heritage Day, you can be part of that impact.
Heritage Day celebrates the rich cultures, traditions, and communities that make South Africa special. On 24 September 2026, South Africans can celebrate that shared spirit by coming together to give back by joining the Sweethearts Foundation’s HeriTAGe Day Sorting. Together, people can help sort bottle tops and bread tags to fund wheelchairs for people who need them.
A wheelchair can cost thousands of rands, putting it out of reach for many South Africans. Money raised from recycling these small items directly funds custom-prescribed wheelchairs, giving beneficiaries independence, access to education, and employment opportunities.
It is also a win for the circular economy and the protection of the environment as tons of dense plastics and metals are diverted back into the manufacturing stream, instead of ending up in landfills, oceans, or drainage systems.
Collecting and sorting waste costs nothing, giving individuals, schools, and offices a tangible way to make a life-changing difference using items they would otherwise throw away.
