Heinz is bringing its famous sauce, a giant communal braai and a full festival experience to Joburg this Heritage Day.

Johannesburg, South Africa (22 September 2026) – If your Heritage Day plans currently consist of “we’ll figure it out on the day”, Heinz has a suggestion: bring your people, bring your meat and get ready for one seriously big braai.

On Thursday, 24 September, The River Cabin in Fourways will become the home of the Heinz Braai Day, bringing Joburg together for a full day of food, fire, music, games and family fun.

And this isn’t your standard braai in someone’s backyard.

Heinz is setting up 125 braai stands, which will come together to create the iconic Heinz emblem, alongside one giant communal braai celebrating one of South Africa’s favourite traditions.

With more than 150 years of heritage behind the brand, Heinz is putting its own spin on Heritage Day by bringing its famous sauces to the braai, because no braai is complete without the sauce debate.

Come for the Braai

The first part of the day is all about getting those fires going.

From 12:00 to 15:00, guests can bring their own meat, snacks and favourite people and settle in for the Heinz Braai Day Experience. You don’t have to arrive carrying half the contents of a hardware store.

Heinz will provide the braai stands, coal and firelighters, as well as its range of sauces.

With 125 stands available, there’ll be plenty of space to get your braai going while soaking up the Heritage Day atmosphere.

And while the food is obviously a major part of the day, the braai is only the beginning.

Stay for the Festival

From 15:00 to 20:00, Heinz Braai Day shifts gears and becomes a full-on festival.

DJ Vin D, DJ Chrizz Beatz, DJ Nate and DJ Bazzy will keep things moving throughout the afternoon before DJ Kent takes over as the headline act.

So yes, you can arrive with the intention of having “just one plate” and still be dancing later in the afternoon.

Whether you’re looking for somewhere to braai with friends, planning a family day out, or simply want to spend Heritage Day eating good food and listening to good music, the Heinz Braai Day is designed to bring a little bit of everything together.

And with 125 braai stands forming one giant Heinz emblem, it’s also the kind of event that promises to make for some pretty memorable pictures.
