Aiden Prince Heugh’s inspiring journey from strumming an old guitar on his grandfather’s porch to launching his debut single ‘Afterlife’ is proof that passion, self-taught grit, and deep roots can set the tone for world-class talent.
Cape Town, South Africa (22 September 2026) – Raised by his grandparents in the Cape Flats, Cape Town, Aiden Prince Heugh is a musical talent who has been inspired by his upbringing. What started as simply strumming along as a child with his late grandfather, Charles Heugh, became a music obsession that guided his life.
In an interview with Doing Good Projects about his journey in life and music, Aiden noted that growing up in the Cape Flats had its ups and downs – but he wouldn’t trade it for the world.
“Growing up here was a blessing. I don’t see myself ever leaving. This is the only place I can call home. When I was a little kid, I used to spend weekends with my mom and her dad. He used to have a guitar that he kept hidden in the cupboard. I used to run from outside the yard, grab the guitar, and we’d sit on the porch and just strum away.”
Aiden describes his late grandfather as his hero and the person he bonded with the most when it came to the thing he loves most: music.
During Grade 9 at Heideveld Senior Secondary School, Aiden signed himself up for the music programme so that he could stay after school to learn about and listen to the beautiful sounds of each instrument.
After completing school during the Covid-19 pandemic in 2020, Aiden worked hard to save up money to buy second-hand music equipment and build a makeshift music studio inside his bedroom. He watched YouTube videos to teach himself how to use the electronic equipment and then offered recording sessions to local artists while quietly writing and creating his own music.
Those who know him personally, particularly his family, know music is his passion and hope he’ll soon gain the exposure he needs to make a full-time career out of it. His father recalls Aiden as a very ambitious and self-confident child growing up.
“There is nothing quite like the way music makes me feel,” Aiden says.
“As someone who doesn’t really live with their parents, a lot of my songwriting comes from a place of loneliness, but I also draw a lot of inspiration from what could be.”
