The world champions return to DHL Stadium in December with a third straight Cape Town Sevens title in their sights.
Cape Town, South Africa (06 October 2026) – The countdown is on to one of the biggest sporting parties on the Cape Town calendar, and the Blitzboks are coming back as world champions.
After winning the HSBC SVNS Series and the World Championship last season, South Africa’s Sevens side will return to DHL Stadium on 5 and 6 December with another piece of history in their sights: a third consecutive Cape Town Sevens title.
And if the Blitzboks’ recent success is anything to go by, Cape Town is in for another seriously entertaining weekend.
The Springbok Sevens have been the stars of the show over the past two seasons, lifting the world champions crown and turning the Cape Town stop into one of the biggest fixtures on the SVNS calendar.
Now they get the chance to do it all again on home soil.
“It’s a special celebration and we hope people will come along with their friends in their fancy dress to enjoy the rugby, the weather, the entertainment, the food and the drink,” said SA Rugby CEO Rian Oberholzer.
That pretty much sums up the Cape Town Sevens experience.
The rugby is only part of it, with two days of music, dance, comedy, food and culture wrapped around the action on the field. Fans can expect the usual colourful crowds, wild costumes and plenty happening between matches as the world’s best men’s and women’s sevens players descend on Cape Town.
And then, of course, there are the Blitzboks.
Oberholzer says the team’s recent run of success has made the annual home tournament an even more exciting occasion for South African supporters.
“We’ve seen the Blitzboks win the World Championship in the past two seasons and this is the annual chance to see the boys turn on the style on home turf,” he said.
The Springbok Sevens will be chasing a third straight Cape Town title, adding another target to what has already been a remarkable period for the team.
There is also some good news for fans planning their December weekend, with ticket prices being brought back to levels last seen before the Covid-19 pandemic. Prices have been reduced by between 17% and 28%, depending on the seating category.
But whether you’re there for the rugby, the entertainment, the costumes, the food or simply the unmistakable Cape Town Sevens atmosphere, the recipe remains the same. It’s two days, one stadium and plenty of reasons to make a plan.
